Intel Nigeria and Microsoft have demonstrated their support for tech start-ups in Nigeria by collaborating with the Federal Government on its Aso Villa Demo Day initiative.
The initiative, which is designed to celebrate the best of Nigerian technology, creativity and entrepreneurship, served also as a platform to showcase Nigeria’s innovativeness to a global audience.
According to the tech companies, the event provided an opportunity to meet with young, talented and innovative technology start-ups in Nigeria as well as an opportunity to network and collaborate with globally renowned organisations.
Speaking at the event in Abuja, the Country Manager, Intel, Mr. Olubunmi Ekundare, stated that the Aso Villa Demo event was in line with Intel’s core objectives of empowering Nigerians with technology.
He said, “Technology is the backbone of the future economy. The rate of change brought about by technology, and especially computers, is exponential, hence, the reason Intel will continue to invest in technology and to support start -ups who have empowered themselves and Nigerians in general through the use of computer technology.”
The Communications Lead, Microsoft Nigeria, Mr. Oluwamuyemi Orimolade, said that the Aso Villa Demo Day event was an opportunity to meet with “amazing” talents in Nigeria and seek ways to collaborate with and support them towards the realisation of their ideas.
Orimolade added, “The future of Nigeria and the world as a whole will be built on technology and as a forward-thinking business, Microsoft will continue to support Nigerian start-ups to ensure that the Nigerian digital and technology industry gains global relevance and recognition.”
The event saw three start-ups emerging as winners: Tracology, a patented smart payment system for utility companies, and founded by Emmanuel Okena; Shuttlers NG, a platform that enables professional’s access to comfortable, convenient and affordable mass transit system, and founded by Damilola Olokesusi and Oluwabusola Majekodunmi. The other is Recycle Points, a waste recycling and social benefit venture that creates value from everyday wastes, and founded by Allison Ukonu.
